A crisp, cool day should greet competitors at Wednesday's state cross country championships, but the running with be sizzling hot.
Several Top of Utah schools are ready to track down state championship titles on Wednesday at Sugarhouse Park as the UHSAA gathers for a one-day in which 10 team trophies will be handed out.
Action begins at 11 a.m. for the state 1-A girls championships, followed by the 2-A girls, 1-A boys, 2-A boys, 3-A girls, 4-A girls, 5-A girls, 3-A boys, 4-A boys and 5-A boys races starting every half hour.
All races will finish at the adjoining Highland High School track, 2166 S. 17th East in Salt Lake City.
St. Joseph will be among the favorites in the 1-A races, after sweeping last week's Region 17 team championships.
Ditto Ogden in the 3-A boys and girls races, although the Tigers will also have several Bear River and Ben Lomond individual mix.
In the 4-A races, Bonneville's boys and Mountain Crest's girls will pace the Top of Utah effort, but runners from Box Elder, Woods Cross, Clearfield and Cache Valley will figure in the individual mix.
In the 5-A ranks, Davis High swept the Region 1 meet, but several runners from Syracuse, Northridge and the rest of the league posted notice they won't back down in the individual chase.
