Verle L. Hartley of Roy celebrated his 80th birthday with a family dinner at the Timbermine Restaurant & Steak House.

He was born Oct. 12, 1932, in Ogden to Cyril and Lillian Hartley.

He graduated from Ogden High School and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the destroyer USS Brown DD-546.

On June 22, 1956, he married Alice Speedy of Richfield, Idaho. Together they raised four children. Their children and spouses are Maureen and Steve Magagna, Dan and Cindy Hartley, Roger Hartley, and Jennifer and Sean George. He has 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He worked at Marquardt Corp., Intermountain Tire Distributors, Flameco and Weber County Mosquito Abatement, retiring in 1997.

He enjoys spending time with family at the Bear Lake cabin he built with his children and brother Lynn Hartley. He also enjoys supporting his family and grandchildren in their various activities.
