Body of Brigham man found in Idaho sewage pond

LAVA HOT SPRINGS, Idaho — Officials in southeastern Idaho have recovered the body of a Utah man from a pickup truck that was found in a sewage treatment pond near where the man had been working.

Bannock County Sheriff’s Capt. Kevin Fonnesbeck says the pickup was located at about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday after a Lava Hot Springs sewage treatment pond was drained. Officials confirmed Wednesday afternoon that the body inside was that of 61-year-old Shelby Whitaker of Brigham City, Utah.

Officials spotted vehicle tracks leading to the pond Tuesday as they searched for Whitaker, who was reported missing Monday by co-workers when he did not show up at the treatment plant, where they were working on upgrades and repairs. Whitaker was last seen on Saturday.
