More than 400 claims in Woods Cross refinery spray

WOODS CROSS — More than 400 claims have been filed by residents and businesses affected when a leaking storage tank in Woods Cross sprayed oil as far as 2 1/2 miles away.

Conrad Jenson of the HollyFrontier refinery tells the Deseret News all but 25 of the 405 claims filed since the Aug. 30 incident have been resolved.

Jenson says the company has spent $500,000 in on cleanup efforts so far.

The explosion at the refinery spewed more than 8,000 gallons of oil into the air and coated buildings, cars and roads.

The company is still investigating exactly what happened, but officials believe pressure built up in a holding tank that ruptured a seam.
