LAYTON -- A 49-year-old man has been accused of groping three servers at a local restaurant.

Sukhjit Singh Walia was arrested by Layton police on Wednesday and booked into Davis County Jail. He has since been released. An arraignment hearing is set for Tuesday in 2nd District Court in Layton.

Walia is charged with seven class A misdemeanor counts of sexual battery.

An employee of Taste of India in Layton reported to police that Walia had inappropriately touched her in June, said Layton Police Sgt. Brady Fitzpatrick.

Police investigated and learned two other employees wanted to report the same conduct.

Restaurant manager PJ Singh said Walia was immediately released from employment when police contacted the dining establishment.

"It has nothing to do with the company," Singh said.

The charges against Walia "have not been proven yet," Singh said. "He's still innocent until proven guilty in court. He was a good worker and worked very hard."

The first woman to report to police about the inappropriate touching has also left the restaurant.

"We called her," Singh said, "but she stopped coming."
