If you like tense defensive battles, you’re in luck.
Real Salt Lake will face Seattle Sounders FC in the Western Conference semifnals, beginning with the first of two legs at the No. 3 seed’s home stadium on Nov. 3.
The two sides have combined for just one goal in three meetings this season, in an RSL victory at CenturyLink Field on May 12. They have played to a scoreless draw twice.
Seattle is currently poised to capture the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference and thus ensure home-field advantage for the return leg of the semis. To do that, the Sounders need a win in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Should Seattle lose, RSL would earn the No. 2 seed with a win or a tie Saturday against Vancouver at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Real will be looking for a repeat of last year’s conference semifinal performance, in which it sent the Sounders packing.
First, the Claret-and-Cobalt hope to keep their CONCACAF Champions League ambitions alive Tuesday, when they face Costa Rican champions C.S. Herediano in a win-or-go-home match at Rio Tinto.
