Rosanne Peery King of Ogden will celebrate her 90th birthday. Family, friends and the public are welcome to visit and share with her a special musical tribute and birthday cake at an open house in her honor from 1 to 4 p.m. today, Oct. 21, at Rainbow Gardens, 1851 Valley Drive.
The Rainbow Gardens founder and still-working director, she opened her business the same year as the first moon landing in 1969. She can still be found from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. every day of the week, helping customers in what has been described in several publications as one of the largest gift shops in western America. After raising a family of five, she took the old ballroom of the then-family swimming resort at the mouth of Ogden Canyon and converted it into a simple novelty gift shop, which has grown beyond her dreams. She built the business and held it together throughout the years with the help of her family and her husband Robert William King (deceased). She presides over four of her five children with a lunch meeting every day.
As one of the first women in Ogden to run her own business, she also served on the Ogden City Council and many of Ogden's charitable organizations.
