Tom and Carolyn Jachim of Roy will be honored by their family for their 50th wedding anniversary at The Timbermine Restaurant & Steak House today, Oct. 21. They also plan to celebrate their anniversary with a cruise to Hawaii.
They were married on Oct. 19, 1962, at Clearfield Community Church, and later in the catholic church at St. Francis Xavier Church in Grand Rapids, Mich. They became engaged a few short weeks after meeting on a blind date.
He was born and raised in Michigan. He graduated from Grand Rapids Catholic Central. He enlisted and spent four years in the Air Force, where he met his wife. He worked at Hill Air Force Base for 32 years as a draftsman and engineering technician. He attended and achieved an associate degree from Weber State University.
She was born in International Falls, Minn., and moved to Utah at age 4. She graduated from Davis High School and attended WSU. She spent many years working in the PTA. Her working years were spent in health care, having worked with many prominent citizens in Ogden. She now is involved in the Catholic Council of Women at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, a member of the Women’s Legislative Council of Utah, teaches yoga twice weekly and volunteers at Ogden Regional Medical Center.
They have three children: Mike and Kathy Jachim, West Haven; Gregg Jachim, Ogden; and John Jachim, Coeur D’Alene, Idaho. They have six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
They have been on several cruises, having gone to Alaska, New England and the Caribbean.
