"In God We Trust" specialty license plates proposed for Utah

SALT LAKE CITY — A campaign is under way to bring an "In God We Trust" specialty license plate to Utah.

The proposed plate was unveiled Tuesday in Provo by state lawmakers, board members of the Provo-based America’s Freedom Festival, and Gov. Gary Herbert’s chief of staff, Mike Mower. The design would include the slogan and an American flag emblem.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/Tx7FoO ) the project was the brainchild of Mower’s 11-year-old nephew, Tate Christensen, who collects motorcycle license plates and recently bought an "In God We Trust" plate from Indiana.

Supporters need to gather at least 500 pre-orders to move the design to the Legislature. Two Utah lawmakers have pledged to sponsor a bill that would make the plates official.
