CLEARFIELD -- Two men face felony charges after police say they beat a 13-year-old girl and broke her nose in several places.
Brothers Rosario Corona, 24, and Migel Corona, 22, both from Layton, were arrested and booked in Davis County Jail on Sunday afternoon on child abuse and assault charges, said Assistant Police Chief Mike Stenquist.
Rosario Corona is also charged with unlawful detention and criminal mischief. Each man is being held at the jail in lieu of $10,000 bail.
The girl was with the two men and her 18-year-old sister at a friend's house at about 350 S. 750 East in Clearfield when the girl and her sister told the men they wanted to go home at 6 a.m. Sunday, Stenquist said.
Rosario Corona started beating up the 18-year-old woman, who was his girlfriend, and then locked her in a bedroom. The 13-year-old girl let her older sister out of the room, and the two men attacked her and kicked her in the face when she fell to the ground, Stenquist said.
"It's pretty outrageous conduct," Stenquist said. "She was just attempting to help her older sister."
The sisters managed to get out of the house, but the men followed and continued kicking and beating the younger girl in the driveway, he said.
Someone saw what was going on, yelled at the two men to stop and called police. When police arrived they found the sisters outside of the home, but the men had gone. The 13-year-old was taken by ambulance to Davis Hospital and Medical Center.
Stenquist said the girl's nose was fractured in several places.
"She will have surgery on her nose in a few days, once the swelling goes down," Stenquist said.
The 18-year-old had scratches and bruises from the beating she received from the men, Stenquist said.
Police watched the house for several hours for the men to show up, which they did, Stenquist said.
The men had "blood on their clothing," from the beatings, he said.
The Davis County Attorney's Office is reviewing the case before filing formal charges in 2nd District Court.
