W. Valley officer injured in traffic accident

WEST VALLEY CITY— A police officer was injured when his car was struck by another vehicle while he was responding to a call near West Valley City.

Police say the Salt Lake County Unified Police officer was driving with his lights and siren on when a car driven by a 17-year-old girl collided with his patrol car at an intersection Saturday afternoon.

The officer, whose name wasn’t released, was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries but later released.

The teenage driver escaped unharmed, but was cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
