Attempted robbery turns to shootout in SLC

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City police say they believe an attempted robbery started a shootout that left a person wounded.

Authorities say a man, woman and child heard a knock at the door of a Sugar House apartment about 3 p.m. Tuesday. Police say the people inside the apartment recognized the people outside and saw they had guns.

Police Lt. Bryce Johnson says one of the residents also had a gun, and a shootout followed.

Authorities say one of the suspects went to the hospital on his own with a bullet wound, while police are searching for two other suspects.

The people inside the apartment were not injured.
