BOUNTIFUL -- A 6-year-old boy with autism was found at 9:14 a.m. Thursday in the Murray area and is now in the custody of child protective services, said Bountiful Police Lt. Gary Koehn.
Riley Martin was found with his mother, Heather Lee Martin. Both were asleep in a home.
Heather Martin picked the boy up from a Bountiful school Wednesday afternoon.
"The school did nothing wrong, because she is on the list as the custodial parent," Koehn said.
However, Martin knew the Division of Child and Family Services was doing an investigation and the boy was in protective services.
Koehn said Heather Martin was detained for questioning, but then was released by police.
Investigators are reviewing the case and may file charges, he said.
