Papageorge helpful in formation of West Haven

Jimmie Papageorge was a man of many accomplishments It was interesting to see the article in the newspaper listing the many things in which he as involved in West Haven city (Oct. 22, "Beloved longtime Farr West mayor dies").

One thing that most people don’t know is that he was helpful in the formation of West Haven city. Some of us living in what was then Wilson and Kansville, were concerned about being taken over by Roy or Ogden.

We asked Jimmie to come to our area and tell us what was involved in the formation of Farr West, Also, we asked if he thought things were going well for his new city. Would it be a good idea for us to consider forming our own city?

He gave us a favorable report on his city and thought it would be a good idea for us to proceed. After this meeting, we decided to move forward. We got the necessary signatures. The county commissioners held a public meeting. In that meeting, the pros and cons were fully explored and the public asked questions. The residents of Wilson, Kanesville and Taylor voted to incorporate. Later, the Taylor area voted to withdraw from the newly incorporated city. Most people still agree that incorporation was and is a good idea.
