1 dead, officer injured in W. Valley shooting

WEST VALLEY CITY — One person is dead and an officer injured after a confrontation in West Valley City.

Sgt. Amy Maurer said the shooting happened about 1:20 p.m. Friday outside apartments on Lexington Park Drive. She says two detectives were at the scene when the shooting began, but it’s not clear who fired first.

She didn’t release the name or gender of the person who died.

Police say the officer’s injuries don’t appear to be life-threatening.
