OREM — Two more for the gold.
When the nationally-ranked Darts tangle with Region 4 runner-up Pleasant Grove in today’s state 5-A tournament semifinals in Utah Valley University’s Utah Community Credit Union Center, it will be their third season meeting.
Three-time defending Region 1 champion Davis High advanced to the final four for the third straight year Friday with a 25-18, 22-25, 25-13, 25-21 victory over Bingham in 1 hour and 32 minutes.
“It’s so exciting to be back in the final four again. It’s a great, great feeling,” said Darts junior setter Kendall Sargent. “It’s a really good advantage playing Pleasant Grove again. Since we lost to them at the Rocky Mountain Champions Classic (Sept. 8 at Lone Peak) we have a lot of drive to avenge that loss.”
The defending 5-A champion Darts swept the Vikings in their Aug. 21 season opener at Kaysville.
Davis (31-1 overall), which sits No. 31 in the PrepVolleyball.com Century Club National High School Rankings — up from No. 34 in the previous rankings, extended its winning streak to 12.
“We were so ready to go and had prepared really well mentally, so it didn’t matter that we played Kearns at 9 a.m.,” Sargent said. “The 25-2 (set 2) win was so much fun and season highlight. Every single ball we were able to put down; we were just on fire.”
The Darts’ Camille Walker had 15 kills, one solo block, a block assist, three digs and four aces; Kaylie Kamalu had 12 kills, one block assist, five digs and two aces; Tanisha Langston had seven kills, three solo blocks, one block assist and 10 digs; Marissa Todd had six kills, three solo blocks, one block assist, seven digs and one ace; Sargent had 20 assists and seven digs; and setter Jamie Selleneit had 10 assists and three digs for Davis, which had 14 aces and 11 service errors.
