Petroff takes early lead in commission race

FARMINGTON — Incumbent Davis County Commissioner John Petroff Jr. jumped to an early lead over Democratic challenger Steven J. Andersen.

At 9 p.m., with mail-in and early votes counted, Petroff had 8,831 votes to Andersen’s 3,454.

The county’s finances have been a key point in the race, with Petroff pointing with pride to the budgets that have been enacted during his first four-year term. But Andersen has attacked the county’s finances, calling those budgets a “seismic shift" in spending, compared to previous years when the county operated with a more conservative philosophy.
