3 charged with dumping body of drug overdose victim in SLC

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City police have arrested three people after a woman’s body was found under a layer of leaves earlier this week.

Authorities say two men and a woman were booked on suspicion of desecrating a human body after 45-year-old Eva Montanez was found dead Monday afternoon.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports the three told investigators Montanez died of a drug overdose inside a house. They allegedly told officers they were scared and dragged the body outside behind a shed.

Detectives say that Montanez’s body showed no signs of trauma. They wrote in a probable cause statement that they found a syringe possibly filled with heroin when they arrested the female suspect.
