Ogden PD identify man killed in standoff

OGDEN — Ogden police identified the man who died on Sunday during a standoff as Aaron Matthew Collier.

At this time police are waiting to release the cause of death pending the result of the medical examiner’s report, said Ogden Police Lt. Danielle Croyle.

Croyle could not confirm if Collier, 35, was shot by police or if he shot himself.

Police were called to 180 4th St. at 2:23 a.m. Sunday after a Weber Consolidated Dispatch received a 911 call from a woman requesting assistance because of a domestic violence incident at the home, according to a news release from Ogden police.

Police made contact with residents in the home and, while investigating, were fired upon inside the residence. Officers returned fire and made a tactical retreat from the home, according to the news release. In addition, the officers were able to safely remove occupants from the home.

Collier had barricaded himself inside the home and refused to come out, according to the news release.

Ogden-Metro SWAT officers responded to the house. After negotiations with Collier ceased, police entered the house and found him dead, the news release states.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing. The officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an independent investigation by the Weber County Attorney’s Office.
