SALT LAKE CITY — A new March of Dimes report has given Utah a B grade for its efforts to reduce premature births last year.
About 5,500 babies in Utah were born too early last year, or nearly 11 percent of all births. That’s compared to a national rate of 11.7 percent. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that the March of Dimes has set a goal of reducing the rate to 9.6 percent nationally by 2020. The report shows areas where Utah could improve, such as getting more women insured. The report shows nearly 19 percent of women ages 15 to 44 are uninsured in Utah, compared to 17 percent the year before.
