Advocate: 1,027 homeless kids

LAYTON — There are at least 1,027 identified homeless children in Davis County, says a man who advocates the creation of a Boys & Girls Club.

Val Stratford, head of the Layton Community Council, discussed the homeless kids during a short update with members of the city council in a recent work session.

“Who would have thought? These are kids who have nowhere to go. We call them couch surfers. They sleep on neighbors’ couches,” Stratford said.

He has advocated the creation of a Boys & Girls Club for over a decade and is trying to work out details to make the club a reality in Davis County’s largest city.
