Dixie State University to be new name?

ST. GEORGE -- Two state legislators say a new name has been selected for Dixie State College in St. George as it moves to university status.

The Spectrum of St. George reports that Sen. Steve Urquhart, in a Facebook post, wrote that the upcoming Legislature will approve a bill designating Dixie State University.

On the same page, the bill's sponsor, Rep. Don Ipson, wrote that Dixie State University has "a nice ring to it."

But Dixie officials insist that nothing has been decided, and a $20,500 marketing and research effort by Sorenson Advertising into rebranding and renaming the college will continue.

Dixie President Stephen Nadauld says the name Dixie State University was put into the proposed bill as a "placeholder" until after the advertising company presents its final analysis in January.
