Utah State cracks Top 25 poll 1st time since 1961

LOGAN — Utah State’s overtime road victory over Louisiana Tech has landed the Aggies in the Associated Press Top 25 poll for the first time since 1961 when they finished 10th nationally.

Utah State is 9-2 and tied at No. 25 with Mississippi State in the poll released Sunday.

The Aggies have lost just two games this season by a combined five points, 16-14 at Wisconsin and 6-3 at Brigham Young.

They clinched at least a share of the Western Athletic Conference championship with a 48-41 overtime victory Saturday over the then-No. 19 Bulldogs. Quarterback Chuckie Keeton passed for 340 yards and rushed for 121.

The Aggies finish the regular season Saturday at home against Idaho.

Utah State’s nine wins ties for most in school history with the 1960 and 1961 teams.
