Richard Thirkill of Ogden celebrated his 80th birthday with family and friends at the Ruby River Steak House.
He was born Nov. 13, 1932, in Logan to Roberta and Edwin Thirkill. His early years were spent in Smithfield before moving to Ogden. He graduated from Weber High School and joined the U.S. Navy. He served in the Korean and Vietnam wars.
He married Hilma Morrow on Aug. 14, 1953. Their vows were later solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple.
He retired in 1971 after 20 years in the Navy and returned to Ogden. He also retired from Hercules, where he was a master electrician. He and his wife owned and operated R&H Ceramics for 13 years. He enjoys fishing and being with his family.
His children and their spouses are Wesley and LuAnn Thirkill, Susan and Neal Hoss, Gregory Thirkill, and Rodney and Teana Thirkill. He has 19 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
