One boy in Perry fire still in hospital

SALT LAKE CITY — An update on the condition of two boys injured by fire last week in Box Elder County was released late Wednesday afternoon by Kathy Wilets, spokeswoman for University of Utah Hospital.

One boy has been released from the hospital. The other remains in critical condition at the hospital’s burn center. Neither boy was identified by name, in accordance with the hospital’s privacy policy.

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. Thursday on South Linda Way while five boys were walking home from Three Mile Creek Elementary School.

They saw plastic gas containers outside of a home, Perry police said, and one of the boys apparently used a lighter to start the fire.

Four of the boys were transported to hospitals. The fifth boy’s injuries were less severe, and he was treated locally. As of Wednesday, only one boy is still hospitalized.

None of the boys lived at the home where the fire occurred.
