SOUTH WEBER — A 41-year-old Colorado woman is in critical condition this morning at an Ogden hospital after being shot in the head by a Morgan County Sheriff's deputy following a high-speed chase through three counties Sunday night.
The chase began in Salt Lake County after police tried to pull her pickup over for a broken headlight and continued on Interstate 84 through Davis County ending on Cottonwood Drive around 10:21 p.m. with shots fired.
After driving over spike strips, the woman continued at high speeds toward two sheriff’s deputies. As she side-swiped one cruiser and hit a second one head on, a deputy who had exited his car fired once at her windshield, hitting her in the face.
Access to the area was blocked by police and only residents living in the immediate vicinity were allowed through. Davis and Weber CSI were called to the scene.
As of 8:30 Monday morning, investigators with the Davis County Sheriff's Department were not ready to name the Colorado woman in the incident, pending notification of her family. She is in critical condition but expected to survive. She had an arrest warrant in her home state for a wildlife-related felony.
No law enforcement officers were injured.
