Darnel and Marie Haney of Ogden celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by visiting each of their children during the year and with a family dinner on the anniversary of their wedding. They visited Raven Rebecca and Larry Hay of Knollbury, Wales, in June, enjoying the Diamond Jubilee celebration of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. In September, they, along with their daughter-in-law Laura Haney, and grandchildren Khaiden Haney and Vincent Haney, provided team support (food bags and encouragement at pit stops) to their son Keith Haney, as he biked the 206-mile Lotoja trek from Logan to Jackson, Wyo., followed by a relaxing family day in Jackson. They spent time on Mission Beach in San Diego with son Norman and wife Melanie Haney, grandchildren Brittany and Kristopher Barr, Roman Haney and Ashley Bailey, and great-grandchildren Darius Haney and LillyAnna Barr.
The couple met at Utah State University the summer of 1960 and were married two years later on Nov. 24, 1962.
He was born in Phoenix, graduating from Phoenix Union High School in 1955. He served two years in the U.S. Coast Guard, graduated from USU, and later earned a master’s degree in sociology at USU. He worked 16 years at Weber State College as associate dean of students and 10 years at Elyria Community College in Ohio as director of student activities.
She was born in Beaver Dam. She graduated from South Cache High School in Hyrum in 1954, attended Utah State Agricultural College for two years and later graduated from Weber State College in 1984. She worked at Weber State University for 17 years, retiring in 2001.
