High school basketball preseason tournaments, once a staple of small schools across the state, are gaining popularity once again.
This week, for example, many of the top 2-A and 3-A boys teams will gather at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield for the 2-A/3-A Preseason Preview. Morgan will have games with Desert Hills and Hurricane, good tests for the talented Trojans.
Ben Lomond ant Bear River will host boys tournaments this weekend, while a few teams will travel to girls tournaments around the state.
The Ben Lomond Pepsi Classic, a longtime tournament, includes Roy, Layton Christian and South Summit as well as the host Scots.
With games at 5:15 and 7:15 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and at 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, fans can settle in and watch a pair of games for the price of one.
Bear River hosts Northridge, Wasatch and Carbon in its three-day tourney, with games at 6:15 and 8 p.m. the first two nights, and at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Most teams got a single game under the belts last week before the Thanksgiving week moratorium. Now they'll battle through non-league games as they prepare for difficult region seasons ahead.
Enjoy the action, boys and girls basketball at its best.
