Many risk lives trying to flee elected leaders

Editor,

I would like to commend the writer of the Nov. 18 letter, "Reader hopes we’ll again be ‘one nation under God.’"

I would like to thank him for his service to our country as well as all our military patriots who have served. We are forever grateful. We can never thank them enough and we can never really compensate them for their service to defend our country and the American flag, Our elected leader initially would not (he does ear it now) wear the American flag pin on his lapel when he was campaigning in 2008.

The letter writer goes on to say that we are free to vote as we please and that we should band together to support our elected leader. Yes, we are free to vote as we please, but that doesn’t compel me to support someone whose policies and views I disagree with.

I guess our brothers and sisters from Cuba didn’t get the message that they were supposed to band together to support Castro when he became their leader. They were probably too busy risking their lives out at sea trying to get away from that leader and they didn’t hear the message.

Our neighbors from Mexico apparently didn’t get the message either, that they were supposed to support their elected leader. Like our Cuban brothers and sisters, they too were too busy risking their lives to get away from their elected leader. It is a tragedy that so many lives have been lost trying to get away from elected leaders.

Thank God for America. Love it or hate it, it is still the most desired country to come to by migrants in order to fulfill a dream and a way of life that their countries and leaders did not provide.

The writer also hopes that one day we can be ‘one nation under God,’ which I too ascribe to. My question is, what god and whose god. Is it the god of the Ten Commandments or perhaps some other god. The god of the Ten commandments is just God who values life at any state with the cross at the core of its teaching.
