BOUNTIFUL -- The Bountiful Police Department has been restructured, with an assistant chief being added to the force at the expense of one other position.
In action taken recently, the city council voted unanimously to create a new management position on the force and to eliminate one corporal position. The cost of the change for the remaining eight months in the 2012-13 fiscal year will be $15,000, Chief Tom Ross said.
Ross pushed the move after the BPD experienced the loss of veteran ranking officers to other jurisdictions. He said the move will make the department more competitive with agencies in the region. He stressed the importance of retaining experienced officers who can assist with training and mentoring younger supervisors.
As part of the restructuring, Ed Biehler will be promoted to assistant chief.
