SALT LAKE CITY — A middle school teacher has been killed after being hit by a truck while jogging to work, police say.
Randy Treglown was a physical education teacher at Elk Ridge Middle School in South Jordan for the last 16 years, said Jordan School District spokesman Steven Dunham. He had been with the school district for 28 years. South Jordan police Lt. Rob Hansen says Treglown was hit at about 6:30 Wednesday morning while jogging in the crosswalk at the intersection of 4000 West and 9800 South in the southern Salt Lake City suburb. Police say the driver of the truck that struck the teacher has not been cited. Investigators are working to determine whether any traffic laws were broken. Treglown lived in the neighborhood and was known for jogging to school each day, Dunham said. There is a crisis team at the school and a counselor has taken over Treglown’s classes to help students cope with the tragedy, he said. "We are all heart broken by this," Dunham said.
