BOUNTIFUL -- The city council has approved a plan to mitigate a wetlands issue related to the recent renovation of a 138 substation on the west side of Legacy Highway.
The Bountiful City Light & Power 138 substation project was done on property identified by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers as a wetlands area, which the utility is required by permit to either restore or provide a mitigation plan.
A dry year hampered efforts to restore the area, according to Allen Johnson, director of BCL&P so the utility decided the most effective way to remedy the problem was to purchase mitigation credits. A plan to purchase mitigation credits from the Warner Mitigation Bank for $15,600 was recently approved by the city council.
The substation project is located west of Centerville and is located on land front property.
