Our View: Thumbs up, thumbs down

Thumbs up: To Ogden’s Christmas Village. Junction City has a lot to be proud of for this annual event, which for generations has captivated adults and youngsters in the heart of Ogden.

Thumbs down: To the fact that nearly 150 dogs can be located in a home without anyone nearby taking action to let authorities know. On an Ogden street, Jefferson Avenue, some folks enabled an animal hoarder, even giving him dogs. He finally called police, from a filthy home sans power, begging for help.

Thumbs up: To the Antelope Island backcountry horse patrols. After a policy was granted and horses were donated, rangers are now patrolling the 28,000-acre island on horseback.

Thumbs down: To the U.S.’s lack of status when it comes to making high-fashion clothes or high-tech gadgets. At the Made in America Store in Elma, N.Y., quality attire of quality electronics is absent from the shelves.

Thumbs up: To Fruit Height city. The Davis County municipality is taking action to solve land drain issues that have flooded residents’ basements. The city council approved plans to rebuild 1,500 feet of clogged pipe that is causing the problem.

Thumbs down: To the United States’ continued lack of leadership when it comes to dealing with the problems of climate change. We hope that our nation will provide both fresh ideas and leadership on global solutions to reduce emissions. That’s being discussed now at U.N. climate talks in Doha, Qatar.
