Equalizing Weber sheriff's costs a fair solution

Thank you, Sheriff Terry Thompson, for doing the right thing and equalizing the cost of providing municipal police services throughout Weber County. Previously, the costs were not standardized and taxpayers in many cities were subsidizing the services provided by the sheriff’s department to certain other cities. Equalizing the service costs and charging each city the full cost of services rendered was the fairest solution for all taxpayers in Weber County. While this has caused understandable discomfort for those cities who—through no fault of their own—were being subsidized, it was still the right thing to do.

It is refreshing to see an elected official who has the integrity and courage to take on a potentially unpopular, but important issue and deal with it head on like Sheriff Thompson did, instead of just kicking the can further down the road.
