Rodger and JoAnn Sparks celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 15 with a family dinner. They also plan to celebrate this occasion with a trip to Hawaii.
They were married in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan LDS Temple on Nov. 15, 1962.She was born in Schiedam, Holland, and became a member of the LDS Church at the age of 18. After turning 21, she moved to Ogden.
The couple met when she moved in with a family who lived next door to her future husband, and they say, 'the rest is history.'
He was born and raised in Ogden. He graduated from Weber High School and attended Weber State College. He was employed with L-3 Communications and retired after 50 years of service. Throughout the years, he served in various capacities in the LDS Church, including high priests group leader and Sunday School president.
She was employed as an area manager at ZCMI for 18 years and retired in 2002. She has held many ward and stake positions throughout the years. One of her favorite callings was that of stake Relief Society president in the Layton Valley View Stake. She served the women for nine years, building many special and lasting friendships.
They lived in Ogden for the first 13 years of marriage and later moved to Layton, where they have lived for the past 37 years.
Their children are Pam and Bruce Logan, Layton; Kim Sparks, Layton; and Rob and Monica Sparks Glendale, Ariz. They have one grandson Matthew Sparks, who they say is the light of their lives along with their toy poodle Dutchy.
