SALT LAKE CITY — A new report shows that the number of young people with jobs is as low as it’s been since World War II.
A Kids Count report released Monday by the Annie E. Casey Foundation shows that America’s young people are losing out on jobs traditionally reserved for them because out-of-work adults who are more experienced are filling them.
Jobs at fast food restaurants and clothing stores are two examples.
Employment rates for teenagers and young adults in Utah are higher than the national average.
In the United States, 26 percent of teenagers 16-19 had jobs in 2011, and 61 percent of people 21-24 had jobs.
In Utah, 35 percent of teenagers 16-19 had jobs, and 71 percent of people 21-24 had jobs.
