Top of Utah volleyball products finish seasons

Several Utah colleges enjoyed sterling volleyball seasons, and one even continues as BYU prepares for its Sweet 16 contest against Oregon at Omaha, Neb.

Former Layton High standout Kathryn LeCheminant is a key member of the nationally ranked Cougars squad, now 28-3 on the season following a pair of NCAA tournament victories last week at the Smith Fieldhouse.

Utah Valley University and Utah State didn't make it to the NCAAs, but both the Wolverines and Aggies won their leagues in style.

Utah Valley went 18-9 on the season, sweeping the Great West Conference regular season and tournament titles.

The Wolverines are paced by Erica Nish (Fremont) and Lauren Stringham (Davis) on the All-Great West team, as well as Morgan's Bailey Ferris.

Stringham was named freshman of the year.

The Aggies won the Western Athletic Conference regular season crown, but were upset in the postseaton tourney semifinals.

USU (21-9 overall), were led by Shay Sorensen (Weber), Alyssa Everett (Box Elder) and Josselyn White (Sky View).

Utah went 14-19 in the powers Pac-12 Conference, with former Fremont star Bailey Batemen a key contributor in her freshman season.

Idaho State won the Big Sky Conference regular season title and came within a win of making the NCAA field. The Bengals rosters includes Sommer Reeder (Box Elder) and Danielle Downs (Davis).

ISU recently signed Chloee Hirst (Woods Cross) and Marissa Todd (Davis) for next season, adding to the Top of Utah connection.
