Former WSU offensive coordinator to coach Weber High

PLEASANT VIEW — Former Weber State offensive coordinator Matt Hammer has been hired as the head football coach at Weber High School.

Hammer, 30, met with Warriors players this  morning for the announcement.

The former Clearfield High standout played college football at Southern Utah and was a Weber State assistant coach for seven seasons.

Hammer was hired by Ron McBride as a grad assistant in 2006, promoted to a full-time job in 2007 and named offensive coordinator in 2009.
After McBride’s retirement in 2011, Hammer was retained by incoming coach John L. Smith, who left shortly after for the head coaching job at Arkansas.  Hammer coached this season under Weber State coach Jody Sears.

Hammer was replaced at WSU by Montana offensive coordinator Timm Rosenbach, a former NFL quarterback.
