WEST BOUNTIFUL — A woman who is five months pregnant was booked in Davis County Jail on two counts of possession of heroin and three counts of possession of narcotic equipment.
Amanda Mecham, 27, of Bountiful, was arrested by West Bountiful police after a resident saw “two individuals inside a car injecting themselves,” said West Bountiful Police Chief Todd Hixon.
Mecham told police she is five months pregnant, Hixon said.
Mecham was inside a silver Chevy Malibu with Lance Robert Minchey, 21, of Woods Cross, in the parking lot at Lowe’s at 350 N. 545 West, West Bountiful, Hixon said.
Police received a call from a resident who walked past the car and saw the two inside the car using the heroin at 2 p.m. Monday.
Minchey was also booked in Davis County Jail on two counts of possession of heroin and four counts of possession of narcotic equipment.
Hixon said the narcotic equipment includes spoons and syringes, as well as other things used with heroin.
Hixon said because of the call, police were able to arrest the pair before they drove away while under the influence of the heroin.
It is not uncommon for people to use drugs while sitting inside a parked car. What is unusual is someone saw the pair and reported it.
“Many times,” Hixon said, “people just don’t see what is going on around them.”
