LAYTON -- The new police chief for Syracuse couldn't leave his old job without saying thank you to the people he has worked with for 15 years and getting a round of applause in the process.
Lt. Garret Atkin, who is the new police chief in Syracuse, took a few moments at the beginning of a recent council meeting to thank city officials for their support for the past 15 years he has worked for the Layton Police Department. He praised city department heads and officials for creating an environment of professionalism and accountability.
"I think the hardest part of this decision was realizing I'm leaving so many close friends who I basically consider family. I hope my move to Syracuse will create even a better relationship between the two cities," Atkin said.
Led by Mayor Steve Curtis and council members, the assembled crowd gave the departing police officer a round of applause.
