LAS VEGAS -- Defending world champion Tuf Cooper took the lead in the tie-down roping season standings Friday night in the National Finals Rodeo, tying for second in the second round.

Cooper, from Decatur, Texas, earned $12,662 to push his season total to $155,341, ending Justin Maass' 10-month run at the top. Maass, from Giddings, Texas, was shut out after failing to finish in the top six, leaving him at $144,001 with eight rounds left.

Cooper's brother, Clif, won the round with a 7.3-second run.

"I'm not really competing against him (Tuf). I'm competing against myself," Clif Cooper said. "I'm going to make the best run I can on the cattle I draw. It's our motto: If I don't win I want him to win it, and if he doesn't win he wants me to."

Tuf Cooper and Monty Lewis of Hereford, Texas, finished at 7.5.

In steer wrestling, two-time world champion Dean Gorsuch of Gering, Neb., was second with 3.9-second run to take over first place in the standings.

Gorsuch has earned $116,067, while previous leader Ethen Touvenell of Napa, Calif., who didn't place among the top six, has made $109,591.

Billy Bugenig of Ferndale, Calif., won with a time of 3.6. Casey Martin of Sulphur, La., finished third in 4.00 and held on to third place in the standings with $100,207.

In barrel racing, 53-year-old NFR rookie Mary Walker of Ennis, Texas, won her second consecutive round, this time in 13.80. Walker remained second in the Standings with $163,807. Leader Brittany Pozzi of Victoria, Texas, placed fifth in 14.00 and stayed in first with $186,568.

Defending world champion Lindsay Sears of Nanton, Alberta, tied for third in the round at 13.91, and is third in the standings with $145,596. Bennette Barrington-Little of Ardmore, Okla., was second in 13.82.

In bareback riding, standings leader Kaycee Feild of Payson, Utah, tied for first at 86.5 with three-time world champion Will Lowe of Canyon, Texas. Feild, who has won or tied for first during the second round the last four years, was aboard Riverboat Annie, while Lowe rode Bi Polar.

Defending world champion Feild has earned $165,638.

"I'm going to come in every night like I'm in last place and got to catch 14 of the best guys in the world," Feild said. "I ride better when the pressure is on me. My motor gets running better."

Lowe moved up to second with $143,412, and Steven Dent of Mullen, Neb., who didn't place among the top six, was third with $140,781.

"My goal is to win every time I nod my head," Lowe said. "Everyone wants to be the rankest person out there. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. And that's the greatest thing about our sport. There are so many unknown factors that can contribute to a great score or a buck off."

In team roping, header Luke Brown and heeler Martin Lucero, both of Stephenville, Texas, won in 4.0 second, while the top two teams didn't place among the top six.

Header Trevor Brazile of Decatur, Texas, and heeler Patrick Smith of Lipan, Texas, remained atop the standings with $144,649 for Smith and $143,149 for Brazile.
