Wrong-way chase snarls I-15, I-80 in SLC

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Highway Patrol says a man is in custody after a wrong-way freeway chase that triggered two minor crashes in the Salt Lake City area.
No serious injuries were reported as motorists swerved to avoid him.

Cpl. Todd Johnson tells the Salt Lake Tribune that troopers twice attempted to use their patrol cruisers to stop the man’s vehicle before it spun into a crash Friday morning on an I-15 on ramp near 5300 South.

Johnson says the chase began about 10:30 a.m. on eastbound Interstate 80 near 700 East, and then went north in southbound Interstate 15.

The name of the driver wasn’t immediately made public.

He was held at Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of reckless driving and evading officers.
