OGDEN -- UC Irvine isn't used to seeing snow like it did after walking out of the Dee Events Center on Saturday night.
Unfortunately for the Anteaters, they had to make that cold walk without a win to warm their spirits -- Weber State isn't used to losing inside the Purple Palace.
The Wildcats defeated UC Irvine 65-51 for their 20th consecutive home win at the Purple Palace, led by 16 points from junior center Kyle Tresnak, his third straight game with at least 16.
"We've been playing hard all season. We just had a couple of letdowns at San Jose State and at Utah State, but we fixed what we did in that and kind of adjusted the way we were playing offense, just playing within the system," Tresnak said. "It's really working right now. It's clicking."
Senior forward Frank Otis was one under his career-high with 13 points and grabbed six rebounds while senior shooting guard Scott Bamforth added 11 as the Wildcats (4-2) kept the Anteaters (4-6) winless on the road for the season.
"That was a grind. We knew going into the game it was going to be a grind, how they play," Weber State said. "That's the way our game was with them down there last year. They are a very good defensive team. I'm starting to think we have a chance to be a very good defensive team and that was a defensive basketball game."
Daman Starring led UC Irvine with 15 points; no other Anteater had more than six in a low scoring game.
Weber State freshman forward Joel Bolomboy had 11 rebounds, his fourth double-digit rebounding performance in six career games. The Wildcats outrebounded UC Irvine 40-48 and held their third consecutive opponent under 40 percent shooting from the floor.
Junior forward Davion Berry, WSU's leading scorer so far this season, had nine points and five rebounds.
Weber State didn't shoot well from the free throw line (21-35, 60 percent) but made all 10 of its attempts from the line in the final two minutes to hold off the Anteaters.
The Anteaters weren't any better, going 12 of 23 from the line.
Back-to-back old-fashioned 3-point plays by Otis and Berry and another layup by Otis following an impressive block by freshman forward Joel Bolomboy, who finished with three blocks, got the Wildcats back into a double-digit lead at 45-32.
Weber State used a 15-4 run to get a jump with a 28-14 lead on UC Irvine in the first half, holding the Anteaters to 30.4 percent from the floor, but Irvine used a pair of 3s to close the gap to 33-26 at the break.
Junior point guard Jordan Richardson and Otis led the Wildcats with eight points each in the first half and Tresnak had 7, but Weber State was just 7 for 17 from the free throw line at the time.
