OGDEN -- Deputies say a 22-year-old Weber County inmate was found dead over the weekend in what appears to be the second suicide at the jail in a month.
Chief Deputy Klint Anderson says the death of Ieve Dominguez took authorities by surprise. Anderson says Dominguez was behind bars on misdemeanors and hadn't shown signs of depression as late as last week.
Officials say Dominguez appeared fine when an officer checked on him about 11:30 p.m. Saturday. They say he was found hanging from a bed sheet in his single-person cell about an hour later.
According to the state court website, Dominguez is charged with a second-degree felony possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and two class A misdemeanors. Dominguez was schedule for a jury trial on Jan. 22, 2013, before Judge Michael DiReda in 2nd District Court.
He was arrested on Jan. 28 following a traffic stop in Riverdale. He was a passenger in a car and gave police his brother's name, according to the probable cause affidavit.
After he was arrested, Dominguez told police he had hid a bag under the seat of the car that had drugs inside it and that he had given a false name to the officer.
The apparent suicide comes less than a month after 43-year-old Jeffery Dean White was found dead in his cell Nov. 14. He'd been charged with murder in the death of his girlfriend, Marnie Stark.
