LINDON — A new memorial to fallen Utah Highway Patrol troopers is up near Lindon after a set of original crosses was ordered off public land.
The Deseret News reports the display was installed Tuesday on land owned by CC Olsen and Sons. The crosses overlooking I-15 are new and not the originals that are in the process of being moved to private land.
The crosses bear the names of 15 troopers who died in the line of duty, along with the logo of the Utah Highway Patrol Association.
A group of atheists sued over the original crosses in 2005, and a 10th Circuit Court of Appeals panel ruled that they represented a state endorsement of Christianity.
The U.S. Supreme Court last year declined to hear an appeal on the decision.
