Officers apprehend Utah fugitive in Neb. woods

CHADRON, Neb. -- Authorities have apprehended a fugitive who was hiding in some northwest Nebraska woods.

Chadron station KCSR ( http://bit.ly/W7dZRf ) reports Justin Pierce was captured Wednesday under a pile of hay near Whitney in Dawes County.

Dawes County Sheriff Karl Dailey said earlier that officers spoke with Pierce through an unidentified go-between to get him to surrender.

The hunt for Pierce began Monday evening when officers tried to serve him with Nevada and Utah arrest warrants. Pierce escaped in a pickup that was found later near some woods.

Dailey says Pierce has some military training that may have prepared him for the cold and the wilderness conditions.
