Man charged with attempted murder of police officer

FARMINGTON — Zane Openshaw was charged Friday in 2nd District Court with first-degree felony attempted murder.

Police said Openshaw fired at a Sunset police officer several times Thursday night at 970 W. 2300 North, in Clinton. The officer did not return fire.

Two of the rounds lodged in the police car’s laptop.

Openshaw, 22, is being held in Davis County Jail in lieu of a $250,000 cash bail.

Openshaw was arrested at his home.

He had been cited on Wednesday by Clinton police for failure to notify of address change, speeding and no driver’s license in possession, according to court records.

Clinton Police Chief Bill Chilson said Friday night there is no indication those misdemeanor traffic charges are related to the shooting.
