Forest Service issues avalanche warning

SALT LAKE CITY — The Forest Service Utah Avalanche Center is issuing an Avalanche Warning at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec 16.

This avalanche warning is for the mountains of northern and central Utah, to include the Bear River Range, western Uintas, Wasatch and Wasatch Plateau. Strong winds, warming temperatures and additional snow will increase the Avalanche Danger to HIGH. Natural and human triggered avalanches will become likely overnight and on Monday. Backcountry travel on and below steep slopes is not recommended.

This warning does not apply to ski areas and and highways where avalanche control work is normally done.

This press release does not apply to ski areas where avalanche control is normally conducted.
