OGDEN -- An Ogden police officer shot at a motorist who allegedly rammed his patrol vehicle and then led law enforcement personnel on a dramatic high-speed chase along Interstate 15 late Tuesday night into Box Elder and Cache counties.
The incident began around 11:20 p.m. when an officer, who wasn't identified, responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in The Gate at Canyon Ridge apartment complex on Valley Drive, Ogden Police Lt. Tony Fox told a Standard-Examiner reporter at the scene.
The officer approached the white Honda and the driver pulled away. Fox said the officer cornered the Honda in the rear of the apartment complex, and the motorist twice rammed the officer's patrol vehicle. The officer then fired at the motorist, said Fox. Information was not available as to whether any of the shots struck the motorist or if the Ogden officer was injured.
Police pursued the motorist west on 20th Street to I-15 where the individual again rammed a patrol vehicle, said Fox. The vehicle sped away north on I-15 at speeds reaching 110 mph and was pursued by law officers in Box Elder County.
Eventually, the driver entered Cache County and the car and driver was located Wednesday morning in a Logan neighborhood, according to emergency dispatchers. Cache County law officers have confirmed that the driver had been wounded and was transported to an area hospital. His condition and how many times he was shot was not available this morning.
