JOHNSTON, R.I. -- A Rhode Island woman who flagged down a police cruiser in an attempt to hitch a ride was arrested as a fugitive from justice after the officer found that she was wanted in Maine for illegal possession of drugs.
Jennifer Desplaines, 30, of Cranston, R.I., and a friend had gotten a ride to the Bel-Air Motor Inn here. After learning it was sold out, they attempted to get a ride from police Officer Derek Parascandolo to the Sky View Motor Inn.
Parascandolo, however, discovered that Desplaines was wanted in Sanford, Maine, for failure to appear in court on a drug possession charge. She was taken to the Adult Correctional Institutions to await extradition.
